Distraction
Sometimes, as an introvert and an analyst, my mind will wander off or speculate with some curiosity over something it has latched on to. Recently, I began pondering this Earth Journey. I began to wonder if it doesn’t have a component of finding our way home. We come here with nothing and we leave with nothing, nothing material anyway. Isn’t that such the irony? How can you not laugh and smile at the ingenuity of the creator of the Universe?
After all, there are so many distractions from the one thing we take with us: our soul. Our entire life is focused on accumulating things, a home, a car, clothes, laptops, phones, watches and more. The more the things the more status here, yet it all stays. alone. Everything gathered here stays here. It is like a maze of opportunity, some brings us closer to ourself, and others pushes us away. The choice is always ours in the moment, and there is so much distraction from ourselves. It takes discipline and a committed practice to make progress with ourselves. I am speaking of our inner life here.
We are encouraged to expend an inordinate amount of time, money and energy resources on new things, or distractions. Is this wise? Doesn’t all the stuff stay here. Isn’t our Spirit the only part of us that transcends? So why don’t we spend more time working on that and less time focused on material gain?
If our Spirit or Soul is why we are here, doesn’t it make since to make soul work a priority? What have you done for your soul lately?
